Schumacher Farm Park – Binding and Shocking Oats

Hi. Roger here. I’m at the Schumacher
farm park where they have been harvesting oats. Earlier they were out
here with the green binder cutting the oats down. There was a windstorm the
other day and it blew everything pretty much flat. So, it doesn’t look like a
field oats but it was actually a field that got blown over. And they’re
salvaging what they can picking up oats that are pretty much laying on the
ground. tThe oats harvested today will be used at the Harvest Festival coming up
shortly. Behind me they’re shocking the oats into bundles for drying
and then they’ll be later picked up, put onto the wagon, and the oats that
you see here will actually be used in the demonstrations and the harvest
festival. The festival will be using steam powered engines to power the old
threshing machines, and again these are machinery that they used back in the 20s
and the 30s
