[www.next-steps.ca] [Garry Green, Senior Manager, Business Development and Community Services] TDSB’s Community Service Department primary focus is not on schools or teachers but rather on supporting the residents of GTA. [Image of Toronto skyline]
Just like every department within the TDSB we are committed to supporting our students [Toronto street with a cyclist going by]
but for us we do this a little
differently.
[Neighbourhood storefronts with pedestrians on the sidewalk]
We do this by supporting the communities that our students live in. This is because
we know that when families and [Adult holding hands with child, walking to school building]
communities are functioning well so are our students.
[Group of children smiling and waving to camera]
We offer programs that link motivated job-ready candidates to employment
opportunities that match their skills set. [Person walks into Job Fair, 2 people speaking, one writing on a clipboard]
If you are an employer, we can fill your
job vacancies with suitable candidates [People sitting at a desk]
and at the same time provide your
organization with additional free benefits. Here’s what current employers using our
services have to say. [Elizabeth Leydolt, Manager at Canadian Tire] We have a wonderful candidate who came to us through Next-Steps. She actually started here as a part-time associate. She’s now the manager of our sports section.

Has become a really fine excellent addition to our staff. One of the nice things about Next-Steps is that they have locations throughout the city [Shows images from Next-Steps location – resources area and reception] and I’ve used their screening services, [Staff hands out a flyer] I’ve done job fairs with them. Next-Steps gives us another eye into the community, another source of really great employees. [Dr. Amit Puri, Toothworks]
Through the Next-Steps programs we’ve
hired over six people over the last year. [Shows people working in the dental office]
The incentives that have been offered have been great. [Person on the phone, Dr. Puri looking on]
So a unique story about one person that I
hired through Next-Steps is…when this
person first came in he said I don’t wanna work in dental. It’s not something I’ve ever envision for myself. Well
this person has now been working with us over six months. It seems like it
was a win-win situation for all and we’ve been very happy so far
with them. [Lily Shen, Human Resources Manager, Crystal Clear Cosmetics]
Whenever we have job openings we send our job postings to Next-Steps Employment Centres first,
where they pre-screen the candidates making our interviewing process more efficient. Their job developers hosted job fairs for us [images from Job Fair] and we have hired 28 employees in [workers inside manufacturing facilities] positions such as Research and Development Chemist, junior account manager, HR coordinator. We are happy to see the candidates
provided by Next-Steps Employment Centre [Shows Next-Steps location] comparing with candidates provided by recruitment agencies. They are
very qualified and a very experienced and that
surprised us our lot. [Eglantine Gee, Human Resources Manager, Tim Hortons] It’s reassuring to work with Next-Steps because they are only a quick phone call away where you can contact your job developer
[shows staff at Next-Steps location] and they’ll help reach out and find someone to fill
in that spot as quickly as possible.
[Someone rings the “I found a job!” bell] Our hiring team really does enjoy
working with the staff at Next-Steps
[Resource area at Next-Steps] because it does help us to free up
more or most of our time not to focus on going
through applications and finding those right candidates, spend that time training those people
and and without the help of the Next-Steps team, we we would not have as much time as we do to focus on that. [Mila Nabor Cuachon, Owner, Casa Manila] Well this is Azis and Azis has been with us now for a couple of months a good
example. [Employee working in the kitchen] He’s a very good…I think candidate to be kitchen helper. You know, I’ve
always found Azis to be a very pleasant and I do value that, I value people who bring
in good energy. I’m very thankful for having Next-Steps program as part of my human resource hiring. [Next-Steps staff and people at Job Fair]
I have relied on it for three years and I
look forward to continue to rely on it for years to come. Bravo! [Next-Steps Employment Centers] And continue your good work. Thank you! [Operated by TDSB] [Employment Ontario logo]
