National faces sharp criticism over social welfare policy

A senior Black Power member is opposing National’s hard-line
policies on social welfare. National says it will block gang members
getting the benefit if they can’t prove
a legitimate income. Eruera Rerekura reports. Taking the benefit off of gang
members won’t make a difference, says Eugene Ryder. But Mr Bridges says gangs have been
living on the benefit for too long. However, Ryder says
under this policy, it’s kids who will get hurt. Clearly, this is a policy National
will take to the 2020 election. Eruera Rerekura, Te Karere.

  1. If Soimon was really tough on crime, he would insist that the Crown returned all the land they stole from Māori.
