Get to know the Chinese Major

Get to know the Chinese Major

I started taking Chinese in high school. Just fell in love with the language andthe culture so I found a college that had that as a major. My
favorite part about getting my Chinese degree is torn between the amazing teachers
that we have here or the connections that they have with universities in China so you can go study
abroad in China. The program here at UWM for
Chinese is excellent. I I love it. I went to China to
study abroad. I didn’t know how to write characters. I
don’t know the tones. Everything was very unfamiliar to me. But just going and studying abroad and
meeting so many new people there, it was really encouraging. And being able to
communicate with people from a different country really just excited me and encouraged me
to pursue learning the language here. The
professors are just all around amazing. They’re incredibly helpful. You become almost
like friends because there’s just such intimate class sizes. They have lots of ways for you to
continually practice your Chinese. They have Chinese Table where you know you go and you talk about
Chinese culture. They encourage you to have a Chinese language partner. And they are really involved with the Chinese Club. So you have like so many outlets to
continue pursuing Chinese. I plan to explore international business
opportunities using my Chinese and my Economics degree. Some sort of job at least that lets me continue my studies cause you’re never really done learning a language. After I graduate, I’d
like to probably work with a nonprofit Chinese org or even going abroad in China and
working with like a business. My name is Martin
McLaughlin, and I study Chinese at UWM. My name is Scott Briesemeister, and I study
Chinese at UWM. I study Chinese at UWM.
