Dr Emily Ortega, Head of Programme, Psychology

Hello Dr Ortega! How are you? You’re here. Yeah, would you like to grab some coffee? Just give me a moment, let me finish this
up first. What’s special about your programme? What’s special about Psychology? Well, understanding the human body and the
human mind, emotions, is always very special. Any top three highlights? Top three highlights? We have lecturers with industry experience,
applied learning, and fun activities in class. What is the most interesting module and why? Most interesting module… I think that would have to be PSY107 because
it is the first module that you take and at the same time you know it covers all the foundation
in Psychology and it is just a really fun module. Okay.. what is the most challenging part of
this course? Most challenging would definitely have to
be Statistics. Hey, let’s go! Okay, come on. Name one famous person with the degree similar
to this. Nobel prize winner – Daniel Kahneman
Who would apply for this programme? Anyone who is interested in the human mind! How are lessons conducted? Lessons are conducted in seminar-styled, lots
of group activities, interaction, discussions, all fun stuff. And how flexible are class times? Class times are not flexible but you can learn
anytime, anywhere and that’s the best part! Alright, name three jobs graduates can look
forward to. Well you go to your post-grad, you can become
a psychologist, if not you can get into research, education, HR, lots of things. And how long does it take to complete this
programme? How long? Well…you have on paper 8 years. But you know you won’t normally take so long. Take your time – it’s not a race. Describe the most interesting student that
you have ever had. Come on! You can’t make me choose. All my students are interesting. How much can graduates earn? How much? Well you know, psychology is all about helping
people, so it’s not about the money. What are the admissions requirements? Quite a fair bit. But best is to check out the Open Houses or
the website. Recall a funny incident during class. I think most of the funny incidents in class
always seem to center around me laughing at myself and my students not knowing whether
if they should laugh at me and then it makes me more funny and then I’ll try to laugh at
them. If this programme were a song, what would
the title be? Let Me Blow Your Mind? When and where can they apply? Anytime online even at Open Houses! If you were stranded on an island, and you
can only take one book what would it be? Daniel Kahneman’s Thinking Fast and Slow. Alright, what’s your favorite food on campus? Mixed rice downstairs at Block B.
Can you say Make Your Mark For The Greater Good in your best accent? Make Your Mark For The Greater Good! One bonus question – can you name me the SUSS
values? Oh! SPIRIT! Spirit of learning, passion, integrity, respect,
innovation of excellence and teamwork! Got bonus prize? Have, bonus prize is the coffee that you are
holding. Alright, I’ll see you soon, Dr Ortega!
